Bleu Noir, a self-taught and multidisciplinary artist, has placed experience at the heart of her work. Impatient and free from all conventions, she loves to let her hands work, experimenting and learning in the moment. Every action she takes responds to the need to create immediately. It was from this state of mind that her first textile project was born: a monumental embroidery supported by a bed frame. Tufting then naturally followed as a continuation of her artistic exploration. Lacking formal academic training, her creations reflect sincerity and spontaneity. Paradoxically, she develops, with great mastery, a wildly naive universe inspired by her travels in Asia. Bleu Noir is agoraphobic; her anxieties manifest as a need to exert extreme control over her environment and herself. Art allows her to transcend her condition. After prolifically expressing a darker side of her being through the graphic power of her collages, her tufted creations herald the arrival of the second phase of this journey. Freed from a certain kind of violence, her rugs allow her to give voice to the joyful, whimsical, and somewhat dreamy child within.
